US-60 Versailles Rd • LEX Airport • Downtown Depots
Know Before You Go: Keeneland Race Course (4201 Versailles Rd) sits six miles west of downtown Lexington along the US-60 corridor, directly opposite Blue Grass Airport (LEX). During the Breeders’ Cup World Championships, 100% of on-site and Park & Ride parking requires a pre-paid digital parking pass. No cash or credit card parking is sold on race days, and vehicles without passes are turned away at police checkpoints on Versailles Road and South Yarnallton Pike.

1. Complete Parking & Shuttle Comparison Matrix
To move 43,000 spectators per day smoothly through a rural scenic byway lined with historic dry-stone walls, Breeders’ Cup Limited and LFUCG Traffic Engineering divide access into five color-coded parking and transit channels:
| Parking / Transit Zone | Access Gate / Depot Address | Typical Advance Rate | Shuttle & Walking Protocol |
|---|---|---|---|
| On-Site Grass Parking (“The Hill”) | Gate 4 (Van Meter Rd / S. Yarnallton Pike) | ~$55 Fri / ~$85 Sat (~$140 2-Day Pass) |
Includes complimentary continuous shuttle to stadium gates, or 12-minute paved path walk. |
| Blue Grass Airport (LEX) Park & Ride | 4000 Terminal Dr (Airport Event Lot) | ~$40 Fri / ~$60 Sat | 5–7 min continuous shuttle ride straight to Keeneland gates. Walking across US-60 is strictly prohibited. |
| Downtown Lexington Motorcoach Shuttle | West Short St (near N. Upper St / Rupp Arena) | Per-Person Shuttle Pass (Valid Race Ticket Required) |
~20-minute direct coach ride into Keeneland’s dedicated bus loop; runs until 90 mins after final race. |
| Rideshare (Uber / Lyft / Taxi) | Gate 1 Only (Versailles Rd & Man O’ War Blvd) | Metered / Dynamic Surge | Dedicated staging coral inside Gate 1. Expect 2.5x–4x surge pricing for 60 mins after the Classic. |
| Official ADA Accessible Parking | Gate 2 (Main Entrance off US-60) | Pre-Paid ADA Pass Required | Requires both a pre-purchased Breeders’ Cup ADA pass and a state-issued ADA placard/license plate. |
2. Gate-by-Gate Routing & Avoiding the Versailles Road Bottleneck
Between 9:30 AM and 12:30 PM on Friday and Saturday, east-to-west traffic on US-60 (Versailles Road) exiting New Circle Road (KY-4) backs up past Mason Headley Road. Use these tactical routing adjustments based on your credential:
- If You Hold a “The Hill” Pass (Gate 4): Do not take US-60 West from New Circle Road. Instead, take I-64 West to Exit 65 (Midway) or take Old Frankfort Pike (KY-1681) to South Yarnallton Pike, approaching Gate 4 and Van Meter Road from the north with minimal delay.
- If You Hold a Blue Grass Airport (LEX) Park & Ride Pass: Approach via Man O’ War Boulevard from the south (Harrodsburg Road / Nicholasville Road corridors) directly into 4000 Terminal Drive. Because the airport shuttle buses use a dedicated police-escorted crossover lane across US-60 into Gate 1, the LEX Park & Ride is frequently faster door-to-turnstile than parking on-site.
- Private Aviation & FBO Arrivals (TAC Air / Signature Flight Support at LEX): Keeneland is the only major championship racetrack in the world located 800 yards from a commercial and corporate jet runway. Over 250 private jets land at LEX during Breeders’ Cup weekend; credentialed horsemen and chalet guests arriving at the WestLEX general aviation ramp are transferred via private tarmac sprinter vans directly to Gate 2.
- The 90-Minute Post-Race Egress Rule: Shuttles and rideshare queues operate continuously until 90 minutes after the final race (approximately 7:45 PM ET on Saturday). Rather than standing in the Gate 1 Uber queue at 6:25 PM immediately after the Classic trophy presentation, remain inside the Paddock lawn or chalet lounges for 45 minutes while the initial 15,000-car wave clears US-60.
